Woodend Wonderland

Its been around 4-5 years since I have fished at this venue and I needed to revisit as it had to far to long. On the revisit I was joined by my good friend "Ryan" who has not fished for many years. The fishery has had a big upgrade since the last time I wet a line here. Myself and Ryan arrived at 9:30 and we fished till 4:30 with the perfect weather, luckily I was able to swap my working days having Friday of work to fish thank you work :) we had a brilliant day not catching big but still enjoying listening to nature and getting back into the fishing adventures.

Through the past months I have been upgrading my pike fishing tackle. The other month I decided to try my luck and get some pike on the line.

No such luck for me unfortunately, 4 hours and not even a follow. I don't have a clue what I am doing, but we all have to start somewhere to end up somewhere.

My biggest pike so far is 10lb 6oz that was my second time ever pike fishing which made me very happy. I was just a large lure I think it was a mackerel imitation lure. I must have been fishing for over 3 hours. I tried every place on the lake, I started having doubts about the venue and nearly gave up.

I just finished my second coffee, as the day was like -2 🥶 in December. After 3/4hours in the cold it felt colder more like -9 🥶. And I thought stuff this ill just cast as far as i can into the middle of the lake and ill reel in while moving my rod to the left and right on every retrieve. And BOOM!! I hit into a good fish. Not much of a fight but at 10lb 6oz I no longer felt the cold.

Since then i believe it was in 2018 I have not caught a pike again, but only been about 6 times since 2018 to today

I must have been beginners luck that's all I can say, This year i am going to try and catch more species that going to the big fish.
